MDM NORSINAH BINTE SUADI

SCHOOL STAFF DEVELOPER

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” – Henry Ford
As an educator, I believe that no man is an island. The key to greater success is collaboration. Together, we can overcome any hurdle that comes our way and together, we will strive towards achieving the same goal. Through the power of collaboration, we will not only develop the child cognitively but also his character.
With ‘All Hands on Deck’ as the bedrock of our school’s culture, further reinforced by our ‘Mindset of Excellence’ and ‘Culture of Care’, every child will learn compassion, integrity, resilience. respect, loyalty, courage and a sense of responsibility towards himself, his family and his community.  I believe in MOE’s initiative of building students’ character through its values education for I believe that success is without its merit when a person lacks character.
As the School Staff Developer, I aspire to build a community of teacher leaders in the school. Every teacher is a leader, either in the classroom or the department that he serves. Together, we will continue to grow from strength to strength and hone our skills as we work towards professional excellence.

"If everyone is moving together, then success takes care of itself."

– Henry Ford.

Our Beliefs: About

MRS NIRMALA SAM

LEAD TEACHER (SCIENCE)

An issue that I feel strongly about as an educator is the need for everyone - educators, parents and the general public to advocate the paradigm shift of moving from success to significance. It doesn’t  mean that academic excellence is not important but that we should not be obsessed with that alone. We should strive for beyond academic excellence. We need to have that courage, to take that risk to move away from ‘Teaching for Assessments’ to ‘Teaching for the whole child’. It is about making students find purpose and meaning in what they are learning.

It is the responsibility of us, educators to be an effective advocator of this; in the efficacy of learning not just for the examinations, but learning for life. Educators need to constantly evolve and have the grit to push boundaries, even for a single child. The responsibility lies with the educator, in preparing the child for the future, in developing the child’s interests and strengths.

In Teaching for the whole child, another ‘significance’ is learning and application of values. In order for the child to internalize the virtues that we value, we need to teach them what we believe and why, engaging them in moral conversations. It is necessary to walk the talk as we are the best examples for our students.

Our Beliefs: About

MDM AIDAH BINTE HOSNI

SENIOR TEACHER (MALAY LANGUAGE)

I believe that every child wants to and can learn.  Each child is unique and it is my role as an educator to discover and empower each child’s strength.  Using cooperative learning strategies, MTV routines, differentiated instruction, ICT, formative assessment, positive discipline and humour, I hope to ignite the passion and joy of learning in each child.  Creating a safe and conducive environment is equally important to ensure that the child’s experience is a positive and nurturing one.  Therefore, building a strong and trusting relationship with each child is crucial.  I am also strongly committed to inculcate sound moral values because I believe it is the root for each child to be able to constitute right from wrong and eventually make informed decisions in every step of their lives.

Our Beliefs: About

MDM LAZAR JENNIFER SELVI

SENIOR TEACHER (ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

I believe education is a social leveller and that every child in Singapore has the right to education. Therefore no child should be left behind or forgotten. I believe every child is an individual and should be treated as one. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to nurturing a child. As a teacher I must first get to know each and every child personally before I can start teaching. I believe my duty as a teacher goes beyond just teaching the curriculum or syllabus. My job is also to nurture and foster future generations of Singaporeans who are confident, considerate and compassionate individuals in society. Therefore it is important that my classroom is one where students are allowed to speak out without fear, make mistakes or take risks and yet be humble enough to learn from one another.
